Blogging – Finding Your Passion in Writing

BloggingWhat should I blog about? Well that all depends on what you “enjoy” writing about. For me I enjoy technology and finding different ways to save some money. If there is a tool that can save someone a few dollars on their business phone bill (Google Voice) or save you time in doing some day to day functions (Drop Box). Or just plain makes your life easier by getting your contact list together (Xobni) then I’m all for that. I figure if it helps me I’m pretty sure that it may help someone else out there.

A lot of people sit down and think and think and think about what they should write about. Then they normally end up not writing anything at all. Here’s the long and short of it all, if you don’t have much interest in Technology…..don’t write about it. If you have no interest in writing articles then by all means don’t concentrate on that.  You should always concentrate on writing about what you’re comfortable with. When you don’t it shows in the articles and content that you spit out.

How’d you like to go to a blog about soccer and find a baseball fan writing it? I can almost guarantee you that the content will be a whole lot less valuable and less entertaining.

Now I know that you’re thinking, well if I’m in Network Marketing don’t I have to write about Network Marketing? Well yeah you kind of do need to do that but that is the beauty of being YOU. You can twist and turn the different aspects of what is needed to be successful in the industry by adding your own spin on it. The point of it all is adding value to your content and letting your personality shine through.  You and I could probably write about the same thing and have two different sets of people enjoy it. Some will enjoy mine and some may enjoy what you have to say 10 x more.

My point is folks, just get started in writing and just let it go.  Be passionate about what you’re writing and the new things that you’re learning every day and share freely.  People will be attracted to you because you are writing from the heart and sharing good content, and providing VALUE to them. And above all else be consistent.

Case in point, Ty Tribble (tytribble.com) is reknowned for being the #1 blogger  with regard to blogging about Network Marketing and MLM. Why is that? He says his secret is that he wrote consistently (by his measure he did 2 blogs per day, 7 days per week for 6 years straight). Now I’m certainly not saying to go to town like that unless you really want to, but you get the gist. Be sure to drop something out at least once per week.

So there you have it….simple stuff….Blog about what you’re passionate about, blog consistently, give VALUE when you blog. No one said that you have to write a novel when you do blog, when something valuable comes to mind write it down and get it posted ASAP. You’ll develop a huge base of content just by doing that. Commit yourself to write at least 1 post per week and you’ll be on your way to being successful in blogging.

How did YOU figure out what your passion was when you started blogging?

If you liked this post share it with someone who could use the motivation to get started.

  1. Good stuff Brian,

You had a lot of good stuff but what I like most is when you said “Be passionate about what you’re writing…” I think if people really get this and be themselves, blogging will come easier than expected.

Thanks Rodney. I believe that we can achieve so much more once we are passionate about what we are doing. When you’re doing what you love you can achieve so much more.

  2. Very nice! I think we can use this analogy for any type of marketing that interests us. I’ve been meaning to check out google voice. Keep up the great work.

Jeff, I’m with you my friend. Just keep it going and write, write, write. I plan to do a bit of video blogging as well to keep it interesting. Value is value at the end of the day no matter the medium :-)
