Is Twitter Going Away as a Marketing Platform?
Twitter is a phenomenon upon itself. It is the fastest growing Social Media platform around yet it still in some ways doesn’t feel as if it is a normal part of everyone’s day to day interaction the way Facebook is. However it is hard to argue with the overall reach that Twitter has.
If someone Re-Tweets your content and they have 20,000 followers that is major reach for your content. Lets do the calculations. If you have 5 Twitter friends who have 20,000 followers each then potentially you now have a reach of 100,000 people if your friends share your content. But is that really the case?
Many people really question the use of Twitter as a marketing platform. Why is that you may ask when the positives are so resounding.
1. You have a huge reach to thousands upon thousands of users.
2. It’s seemingly a whole lot easier to use than other platforms such as Facebook, Digg, Stumble Upon etc. All you have to do is plug in your 140 characters and that’s it. Thousands of people see your content.
But is all of this really true? Do you really have thousands of people viewing your content?

Brian,
Great post.
I had already felt for a while that twitter was not that effective. Now there are many schools of thought on this, but I agree with that blog post. Especially since there are millions of people screaming at each other at the same time. It doesn’t make it very conducive to what we are trying to accomplish.

Aaron, I’m with you. I’ve seen some better returns with other platforms however I don’t yet have massive, targeted Twitter following so I’m sure I’ll see increased volume as my followers grow. There are some valid points about your content going by teh way side though so it does make it very interesting.

I’d have to agree with Aaron! Everyone thre is constantly screaming about any and everything they can think of… For the most part it seems to me noone cars about anything a Marketer has to say.. Other than his followers, then their doing the same thing screaming out their opportunities.. So I would say it’s a waste of time and effort

Hey Willie, well I wouldn’t go as far as saying that it is a waste of time. I believe that it just means that you have to do a few things. 1. Build a targeted list of followers and people that you follow 2. Be sure to always share good quality content so that people will click on your links. 3. Don’t spam people with random useless opportunities and capture pages on ever tweet. That’s not valuable to anyone.
There still is some good to come in Twitter once you play your cards right.

that’s right.. Completely agree.. Nice blog

Hey Brian,
This post is a good thing to think about. I like reading the other post you sent us to because it made a lot of sense. As network marketers we need to get the followers off of Twitter and on to our blog so they can actually see who we are and invite them to become a lead. This is why copywriting is essential in our biz since we only have 140 characters to get them to click!

Hey Erin, it does make you think since Dan provides some strong and very valid points. You’re correct though it is very important to choose your words wisely since you have a limited space to play with.
Thanks for stopping by as usual though Erin.

Hey Brian,
Great post man, I was also wondering w/sooo many tweeters per day how can any of my tweets really make a difference. It does seem pretty saturated and I myself hardly ever pay attn to all the marketing/promo tweets! I agree that Twitter still serves a purpose and one has to narrow the focus to your own specific niche….
